Later period Fencing Arts:

For this period of history we use Early small sword as our main source of fencing theory to provide all fundamental skills, relying specifically the on the French Art of Smallsword according to Liancourt and The Scottish Method According to Sir William Hope.

Once learners have a sound foundation of posture, movement, timing and technique with the thrust only small sword, we begin introducing cuts via the transitional rapier of the late 17th century and the cut and thrust manuals of backsword, broad sword and sheering sword that make up the plays of the hanger, basket hilt and proto-cutlass.

17th-18th Century Fencing & Dueling Arts

The Age of Piracy, Privateers and Periwigs

Sadly these classes are presently on hold as they lack the numbers to be sustainable, we hope to reintroduce them in the near future, please contact us and let us know if the arts of this period capture your imagination and you'd be likely to commit to regular training in them in the future.

Plans for the future

Once we have these classes back up and running we aim to introduce practitioners to bayonet fencing along with the Scottish basket hilt with the aim of these later arts having a similar tournament structure to our medieval arts, where each weapon has it's own contest along with a mixed sword contest between the basket hilt, smallsword and transitional rapier.
Then eventually with bayonet in the mix we may allow bayonet vs sword as an additional option.
